Invitation to Conference on Christian Mission & Religious Pluralism 2019

Greetings to you from the Centre for Christian-Muslim Engagement in Africa (CCMEA) of the Akrofi-Christaller Institute (ACI)!

The CCMEA is now replacing what used to be known as Presbyterian Interfaith Research and Resource Centre (PIRRC). The primary mission of the Centre is to equip Christian leaders, resource Christian scholars and develop biblically-based reflection on interfaith issues in general and Muslim-Christian interface in Africa in particular through teaching, research, publications and consultancy.

In line with its mission, the CCMEA is organizing the Conference on Christian Mission and Religious Pluralism for Christian leaders to discuss critical contemporary issues that challenge the ability of the Church to be a good religious neighbor while remaining faithful to its missionary mandate.  The Conference is scheduled to be held at the Presbyterian Women’s Centre, Abokobi, from the 3rd to 5th April, 2019 on the theme "Emerging SocioReligious Trends and Implications for Christian Mission in a Pluralistic Context". It is expected that in reflecting on this theme, the participants would be exposed to some trends in Christian practice as well as some social and political phenomena and their wider implications for Christian mission and interfaith encounter.

The keynote address would be presented by Rev. Prof. Benhardt Y. Quarshie, Rector of ACI. Other topics and speakers would be as follows:
  • Neo-Charismatic Practices and Liberal Christianity: A Catalyst or Constraint to Christian Mission? - Rev. Prof. Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu
  • The Church and Other Faiths in the Public Sphere - Rev. Dr. Abamfo Atiemo
  • Today’s Church in the Eyes of a Muslim - Sheikh Seebaway Muhammed Zakaria
  • Migration and Changing Religious Demographics: Implications for Christian Mission - Rev. Dr. Solomon Sule-Saa
  • Mission Schools and Interfaith Encounters - Rev. Michael Nortey
The conference is open to Christian leaders of any denomination, both lay and ordained. Pastors and Church Officers responsible for missions, evangelism, social engagement, ecumenical and interfaith Relations would particularly find this conference useful.

The participation fees is GH¢300.00.
